When making a home, knowing how to tackle a few simple sewing projects can be so beneficial. On this page I take you through several home decorating sewing projects to try to break it down enough to build your confidence to try one yourself.
I taught myself how to sew, (with a little guidance from my grandma) on an antique treadle sewing machine when I was 9 years old. Fortunately, I’ve upgraded my machine since then and have continued to learn sewing tips, taking more interest in home decorating projects than clothing.
Owning my own decorating business and actually sewing many of the custom window treatments for clients, I had the advantage of learning how to construct window treatments not only from design classes, but from a dear friend who owned a family drapery business. She was a fantastic resource for me bounce sewing project ideas off of and walk me through the steps to create and design just about any treatment I could think up.
I learned how to measure windows and how to estimate the amount of fabric needed. Another important component of sewing projects is how to problem solve. It seems that nearly every window has a different issue or special need and I’ll give you helpful tips through my sewing projects how to think through those issues logically.
On this page, I share with you a few of those sewing and stitching tips I’ve learned over the years.
