Hi, my name is Liz and I’m so happy you’re here! Here’s a little about me and the blog.
Simple Decorating Tips is a decorating and DIY blog and yet so much more. Here’s a bit of our story…

My husband, Mike and I live in the Midwest and have been married for going on 5 decades now! We were married very young and I give the glory to God that our marriage survived.
Our kids are all grown up now and we have a wonderfully fun pile of grandkids ranging in age from infant up to college. Each so unique and beautiful and we love every minute we get to spend with them.
I am a self-taught interior designer and have always loved to create beautiful well functioning spaces. After years of running my own interior design business, I changed courses a bit. Instead of focusing on working on projects for hire, I pursued the possibility of buying a property, redesigning, renovating and eventually selling it to repeat the process. Only working on a single property at a time.
We had a business plan, of sorts behind this concept and it worked out for us. Again, thanks be to God!
Some of the properties we renovated, we moved into and made our home for a few years, like THIS 100 year old house, and THIS Mid-Century house we just moved from. A couple we renovated and used for rental properties, (like THIS darling 1800’s little brick cottage).
I am definitely not here to promote investing in properties… go talk to your business manager for that. I will tell you though, it can be exhausting! The process of packing and moving isn’t my favorite part.
For me though, I tend to quickly forget the pain of moving when I’m intrigued to renovate another property and start to visualize living in the space.
I do absolutely love taking a space that isn’t functioning well, that hasn’t realized it full potential and redesigning it with the end resulting in a place that not only works well but is also quite lovely. It’s a type of problem solving that my brain just naturally can figure out and I seriously love to do it!
After years of gaining knowledge in interior design, renovating and DIY, I want to share that with you! I’m still learning too, and still get things wrong, so it’ll be great to explore together.
That is the point of this blog. My goal is to inspire you as I share my DIY projects with you so that you are encouraged to create a home you love as well.
So, where have I landed now?

We just recently moved into a townhouse, I know, very different from a renovation project, right?!
I’m here to say that even though a townhouse isn’t a big ole house, it still can be creatively decorated and feel kind of fancy, right?!
I’m enjoying decorating the interior in a more classic style.
Currently, we have 2 places we call home. They are vastly different from each other so I am still doing plenty of DIY and gardening projects! Our other place is a small lake place.

In the summer, we spend a lot of time up at our cottage.
The cottage is a modest older home on a tiny lake. and the decorating and gardens are very much cottage-style with a plethora of colors and patterns.
So, welcome, I really am so glad you’re here! Now, let’s have some fun getting creative!
