Wall Shelf Makeover

Today’s post features a simple wall shelf makeover that made a huge difference in our bathroom.

This was the before.

I found this cute vintage wall shelf on Facebook Marketplace.

The color wasn’t the look I was going for, but I liked the vintage style of the shelf and the size was perfect for our bathroom.

After cleaning it, it was time to give it a new look.

I used a 50/50 mix of two Fusion Mineral Paint colors. THIS black and THIS brown.

The wall shelf makeover was a quick project, and I had no desire to get too detailed, though I wanted streaks to look sort of wood-grained. Some parts were a little too streaky though, so I just went ahead and painted on 2 coats.

Using a small brush for the edges makes life easier.

I forgot to take a pic of the next step, but after the black/brown paint was dry, I very quickly touched up the front edges of the shelf with THIS Fusion Mineral Paint metallic.

After everything was dry, I spent about 30 seconds and did just a little simple distressing with a sanding sponge on the edges.

Not such a grandmillennial look without anything on the wall, right? In fact, kinda cold and bleak without shelf!

When hanging a shelf like this one, that will have some weight on it, if you don’t find a stud in just the right spot, be sure to use anchors, (like I wrote about in THIS POST)

There are scads of similar styles of these vintage shelves out there. They pop up on Marketplace all the time.

I’m here to encourage you that just because it’s not in the right color, don’t necessarily pass on it. If you like the style and it’s the right size, a simple paint job might be all it needs!

Thank you for stopping by, I appreciate you reading along.

I think I’ve run across 3-4 of these shelves over the last 20 years and they sold quickly in my shop. Somewhere I have one more…and not wall space, lol. Great do over…works well in your space. Sandi@oldnewgreenredo
