On Christmases past… (and houses past for that matter) I’ve decorated with deer.
A Lot of Deer in Wisconsin
I love adding deer themed embellishments to the Christmas decorating. We live in Wisconsin and have a lot of white tail deer… in fact I think that may be our state animal, no wait, that’s a badger… Regardless, deer certainly fit in with Christmas so here are some deer themed Christmas decorating ideas to share with you.
Deer from Christmases Past
This year, our new house is under a full renovation while we are living in the basement apartment, so the Christmas decorating is pretty light… (more like non-existent!) But for the last few years at our former 100 year old house I decorated the porch with a deer themed tree:
Deer Tree on Porch
You can see more detail about this tree and tips on decorating it here.
Triple Wreath on Door
For the front door, I hung a triple wreath adorned with more deer, see that detail here.
Found Deer Antler Mount Embellished
Once inside the house, this embellished deer antler mount greeted you. (I hung it up only at Christmas) And no, my husband isn’t a hunter, I found this rack at a flea market type place…
You can see here how it looked before and how I embellished it.
Deer on the Built-in
In that 100 year old house, we had this wonderful built-in buffet. It was so much fun to decorate for the different seasons. This was the deer themed winter wonderland… see more of that here.
DIY Deer Antler Candleholders
One year I found a bunch of deer antlers at that same flea market place and made candle holders for us, my parents and our 3 grown kid’s families:
The battery operated candles really set them off nicely. Here you can see the details of how I made these… and why they are in the sink!
Every year when I set out the deer themed Christmas decorations, I think, “hmmm… this could be left up all winter, not just for Christmas.” But then once Christmas is over, I’m just craving non-adorned, empty spaces again, and put it all away. Do you do that too?
Random Deer Antlers
Deer antlers are pretty just ‘worked’ into an arrangement to add beautiful texture and interest:
I’m excited to decorate next year for Christmas… right now our Mid-Century-to-Colonial-Revival house is filled with tools, sawdust, and torn down walls… but hopefully it’ll be done by next year. (LOL!! It hopefully will be done way before next Christmas… but right now it seems to be dragging on forever!)
