Today, I’m veering away from my normal format, to, well, vent a little…
A few weeks back I read a post from one of the many other blogs I read and she had just started using Bloglovin’ because the Google Reader is shutting down this summer.
Up until that point, I was using Linky Followers and Facebook to follow my favorite blogs with… But really depending heavily on Facebook to keep me updated to new postings. And as I’m sure you all know, as I do, Facebook doesn’t just let it flow… they control and manipulate who and what you get in your newsfeed… I was missing hundreds… thousands of updates of my favorite blogs! Bummer!!
Then it hit me:
If I’m missing them, they are missing me! Those of my followers that think they’re keeping up with my posts by getting updates on Facebook really aren’t necessarily getting all the notifications when I’m posting!
I have almost 1000 followers on Facebook to date and I’m only reaching (via facebook stats) between 30-160 followers per posting on Facebook. WHAT??? Yep! Facebook is encouraging me to ‘buy’ coverage to reach more people.
I gotta say, that kind of bugs me. I have selected the folks I want to follow and keep up with, just the same as how my followers have selected to follow me. But that’s not good enough, according to Facebook, they think they should supersede our choices of who we want to follow to the level that the only real way you’re guaranteed to get your choices in your newsfeed is I have to pay for it… sort of like an ‘insurance’. If I pay, then I’ll be insured that the people who have chosen to follow me, will actually be able to follow me… hmmm… that sounds a little disturbing to me.
So what’s my answer?
Give up on Facebook? Nope, not yet. I’m still frustratedly plugging along with Facebook, because I’m hoping that I am magically reaching new people that will visit my blog and then hopefully sign up to follow it either by email, Linky Followers, or Bloglovin’!
And Bloglovin’ is what I use totally to keep up on all the blogs I follow. I absolutely love it!! If you haven’t tried them out, I really encourage you to do so. Here’s a screen shot of my Bloglovin’ reader right now:
On the left are all the blogs listed in alphabetical order that I follow. And on the right are the most recent posts. It’s so easy to use.
But best of all… it’s true, it’s accurate, and it doesn’t manipulate my choices of who I follow. I’ve decided, and it shows it with 100% accuracy!
If you don’t yet, I encourage you to go to my right sidebar and follow DecorateWithaLittleBit.com blog via Bloglovin’. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!
