This week Centsational Girl hosted a link party featuring travel souvenirs, which got me thinking… how about if I highlight some of the items I’ve brought home with me from our travels.
(Ok, it mostly got me thinking because the links I put on her party got booted off, because they weren’t designated travel souvenir enough… so being the persistant gal I am… I really wanted to play there… so I’m hoping this one gets to stay on! Hi Kate… please let me stay)
I’ve mentioned some pieces as I’ve showed you different spaces in ‘Our House’ but today’s post is all about highlighting just the souvenir pieces.
When I was first married… and we’d travel, I’ll fall victim to getting some souvenir that looked so cute in the location, but once we got it home, it didn’t fit in with our style and thus those trinkets didn’t get used.
I’ve learned, and what fun I’ve had in doing so. Now, this is as ‘tourist-y’ as I have in my travel souvenirs. We bought these in our favorite place… (Hello Kennebunkport, Maine… I miss you…) these two prints are of two local churches in the town, and they hang in our sunroom. St. Ann’s on the Cape is my all time favorite church ever!!! Someday I’ll give you a glimpse into why, but for now on to the souvenirs…
Prints and paintings like these are easy to fit in the car for the trip home. Both of these I bought at a tag sale in Maine.
Here’s a fun one… we saw it displayed in the front window in a bar in Maine, not for sale, by the way, as we were driving through a town. It made us laugh so my husband parked the car quick and talked to the bartender and being the good wheeler-dealer that he is, in 5 minutes came out with the sign in hand! Now she hangs over our coffee machine.
This pretty enameled ladle and towel holder set hangs over the coffee bar sink. We bought it in Maine too at a wonderful little antique store by the side of the road on our way up to Boothbay Harbor.
This wonderful old grain-painted cupboard was purchased at the same shop in Maine.
The top lifts up and there’s a little single drawer on the left and the cupboard door below. I’m not sure what it was originally used for, but is in super good shape, and now it sits between the kitchen and sunroom.
And another piece from one of our trips to Maine… This old chair that now sits in the dining room, I purchased at a church tag sale in Kennebunk for maybe as much as $2.
And remember, we live in Wisconsin, so to haul these treasures home although is a given for me, is very gracious for my husband!
This bench/table in the sitting area of our dining room, we bought on the way to Maine we stopped in Manchester, Vermont at the Orvis Home Store… they were having a tent sale and I got this super cute piece at a super reduced price.
Ha, I almost forgot this tin my husband spied in an antique shop in Maine. Neither of us are big drinkers, but the color and artwork on the tin by Dr. Seuss was what my husband liked so much, so it hangs in our kitchen.
And since we do live in NW Wisconsin, I thought I’d show you one piece we bought when we were traveling in the neighboring state of Minnesota… fairly close to home. We were staying at a resort by Brainerd, MN and found this at a local antique shop. It’s so unique with the Coast-to-Coast signage in such good shape still. It is in the sunroom holding my orchids.
So there are just a few of my ‘travel souvenirs’. I have more things throughout the house. I love that with each one I have wonderful memories of many great times spent with the love of my life at one of my most favorite places… Kennebunkport, Maine.
I appreciate you stopping by.
