We’re getting closer to the dining table in the Dining Room Tour of “Our House”, the delay has been because the table is still full of lighting and plumbing fixtures for “The Little Brick Cottage”, but I hope the cottage will be ready for these items real soon. When it is, I promise, I’ll show you our dining table in this room too.
But today, I’m going to show you this tall French styled cupboard I bought from Ballard Designs on clearance!
The style and size of this stepback cupboard seemed perfect for this corner, and black is the main accent color in our dining room, so when I saw this in Ballard’s ‘estate sale’ for a great price, I snapped it up. (And they even had a super deal on delivery at the time!) This step-back cupboard stores all our holiday dishes and stemware. It sits in the corner to the left of the French doors that lead to the living room. (The simple white cupboard sits to the right of those doors.)
Both the top doors and lower doors have these pretty locking mechanisms with keys.
I found this glass covered handled tray at an estate sale many years ago, and I still love it.
My kids went together and bought me some pieces of Villeroy and Boch, after I had mentioned to my daughter how much I loved the pattern. She found these pieces at an outlet store and talked her siblings into getting them with her for me. I love the toile pattern of simple farm scenes on them. I placed the large cream platter from Home Goods behind them to help them stand out from the wallpaper.
We love to go to the Maine coast every year we possibly can, and I always find some treasures to haul home. It brings memories of my favorite places in Maine to back here in NW Wisconsin. This old chair was in the yard at a church rummage sale in Kennebunkport for only a couple of bucks.
(I like how the rustic look of the concrete floor contrasts with the fine details of the furniture.)
I don’t know how old this chair actually is, (I don’t think it’s a period piece, but I’m not sure) it for sure has been used for many years, and I think it looks great in this corner.
You can just barely see behind the chair, tucked in the left corner between the cupboard and wall are where I keep two folding bamboo chairs I bought at Tuesday Morning for $15 each and use them for extra seating.
The cuckoo clock in the dining room is a very special addition. My husband gave it to me for our anniversary. I think I love to watch the people twirl around at the top of the hour as much as our grandchildren do. When they hear the cuckoo bird utter his famous ‘cuckoos’ and the song start, they come running in to watch the show.
So from this point in the tour, if I turn left…it’s the dining table, or if I turn right…it’s the coffee bar. (I hope I can finally turn left next time.)
I appreciate you stopping by.
