Since there’s been so much interest in the post: Interior Windows, Part 2 featuring my master bedroom window, I thought I would break from the Dining Room welcome tour, and show you the whole master bathroom in a several part series, fitting it in between the Dining Room Tour posts. If at any point you’d like more detail on anything, just ask, I’d be glad to share with you.
When we first bought ‘Our House’ the bathroom layout was similar to what you see now, except the bathroom ended approximately where the far end of the tub is now. There was a 24” doorway that went into our walk-in closet in that wall. We took down both that wall and the wall in front of the tub, rebuilding them a few inches shorter, and further apart to make room for this longer tub. Then we used that previous walk-in closet space to enlarge the bathroom, creating a space for my husband’s vanity, and beyond, a large walk-in shower. (We completely moved our closet location, I’ll explain that in a later post when I feature the Master Bedroom.)
So, to give you an idea of the bathroom before and after, here is a before picture of the same window area:
You can just barely see the dark brown trim of the previously existing doorway to the walk-in closet on the right of this picture. That’s the wall we took down, moved a couple inches into the closet space, and then completely took over that closet area for my husband’s vanity and the walk in shower.
Pretty clear that “Our House” was built in the second half of the 1980’s isn’t it?
However, we lived with this bathroom for almost 15 years before we could justify spending the money on it. Up until this bathroom re-do last year, for the most part it worked fine, and we finished raising 3 kids, helped with their college expenses, and basically re-did the whole rest of the house, inside and out. But finally it was our turn…
this is our bathroom now:
To give you your bearings:
To your right is the first vanity, actually, my vanity, located in the same place as the old one. But this new one is 36” high.
Then just beyond the vanity is a small wall then the door to the toilet room, again in the same place as previously located, we installed a door though, in this new bathroom plan.
Now to your left, actually just behind you, is a linen stepback cupboard.
Then there is a small wall and the tub space, with an exterior window over it.
Beyond the tub is another small wall, with the ‘famed interior window’.
On the other side of that interior window is the second vanity, actually, my husband’s vanity.
And you can see straight ahead is the doorway to the walk-in shower, because it’s large enough and due to the location of the showerhead, we don’t need a shower door.
I appreciate you stopping by.
