We moved into this house 15 years ago, and every Christmas since our mantle has been
decorated a little different from the years prior. Even when the kids still lived at home, and we had the stockings hung by the fire with care, I still changed it up. I think the mantle is a great place to decorate for the colors and styles that are ‘in’ for the present year.
Which brings me to this year’s mantle, I noticed this year as I’ve been out and about, more natural, simpler decorating that’s interestingly mixed with sparkle and glitter.
The pair of silver pressed tin angels with gold highlights, I’ve had for several years. In the living room this mantle is located there are high vaulted ceilings, so to have height in the mantle decoration is important. The angels accomplish that.
The branching strand of LED battery operated lights and the glass ball garlands I did buy this year from a friend having an occasional sale, and they add the color and sparkle.
I did have to ‘tack’ the greenery in a couple of spots to keep it where I wanted it with skinny little nails on the top of the mantle.
The nearly perfect pinecones came painted in this gorgeous silver finish, but they are real pinecones. Also, notice the ‘groups of three’ theory…three pinecones in each grouping on the ends of the mantle and overall it has a feeling of ‘three’ clusters, two being the pinecone groupings on each end and the angel grouping in the center being the ‘third’ cluster.
Simple but festive. Wonder what it will be next year ?
